July means Bastille market

Update Update

Sadly the Bastille market at Club Willoughby has been postponed until 20th September. Due to the heighten issues in organising events at present a last minute decision was made to reschedule. Keeping everyone safe is our main priority!!

Well it is already July and that can only mean one thing – the annual Bastille celebrations. This year, as with everything,  all the festivals are quite curtailed. So we are very lucky to have the Bastille Market at Club Willoughby on the 12 July.  It’s going to be a full day of food, shopping, wine and more celebrating all things French. Situated in the car park of the Club Willoughby, Crabbes Ave.  It will be an outdoor market with lots of space for everyone to enjoy safely. Can’t wait to see you all there.

Remember not only do we have the fantastic baskets perfect for any French celebration but we have a great range of the St James stripy Breton tops. Just to get into the look!

Here is the lovely long sleeved Minquier moderne style perfect for this time of the year. Available at the markets and also online https://2ducktrading.com.au/product/st-james-long-sleeve-minquier-top/

Plastic free July

Now an annual event, the month of July is an opportunity to really look at our plastic use and our personnel commitment to reducing plastic and our carbon foot print. At 2 duck we do feel that  the use of a basket is a perfect way to start reducing plastic usage. We are just back from the market and just loaded all our veggies in without additional plastic. Also we offer produce bags that assist with purchasing and sorting of your shopping. Get into it and stop single use plastics. https://2ducktrading.com.au/product/reusable-produce-bags/

Basket of the Month

Time for a bit of fun!! Our cute lace edged baskets with thick red leather handles easy to carry over the shoulder! This is a medium sized basket and is great for everyday shopping or as a tote. Pop over the shopping page for this and many more options. https://2ducktrading.com.au/product/red-lace-basket-with-long-handles/

MarketsCambridge markets at EQ  is back and in full swing. We return Saturdays starting 18th July.

Carriageworks is still working through the issues for the whole site however they are hopeful that the Carriageworks Farmers market will be back very soon. Maybe by early August. Fingers crossed.

Take care and keep safe.

June at 2 duck

As our lives gradually come back to normal and we come out of isolation, we continue to have our range of French market baskets and lovely table linens to be available online and by appointment at  frenchclass in Glenmore Road Paddington until late June.   Just call 0404259986 to make an appointment. We are here onsite so it is easy to meet you should you require a basket or St James teeshirt.

Winter is upon us  and while we don’t always think of market baskets in the cooler weather we can use them every day for some many different things. For those lucky enough to have a fire place many of the baskets can be perfect for your kindling or logs.  Otherwise they make lovely everyday hand bag like our beautiful round basket of the month below.

Basket of the Month

This round basket really brings back our visits to Morocco and scouring the Medina looking at all the wares. We can’t wait to get back to Morocco but toting the round basket gives us that holiday feeling. It has a short handle  and plenty of space to pop your shopping.

August

August is here and Spring almost around the corner. We are just back from our annual trip to Melbourne and the Life Instyle trade show. Another great fair completed.

Coming up this month is the start of the Spring fair season we have a few great events. We are looking forward to a trip to France in Sept/October too.

Once again the baskets were so well received at the Melbourne trade fair.  It is alway so wonderful to think that they will be off around the country spreading their magic. With so many alternative carrying bags on the market I am heartened that people are still returning to our great baskets.  They are truely made in a sustainable way and by traditional artisans. So much of what is available now is not – masquerading as eco friendly but in fact not made from sustainable materials and or genuinely handmade.

Basket of the Month

One of our newer baskets and a great tote for the market, school sport or soon enough the beach – our Reinforced Single Strap basket.  With a simple long strap handle  that swings easily onto the shoulder, strengthened by additional reinforcing,  this large basket is a perfect everyday carry all.  In addition this basket has a woven base for additional support so it stands very well.  Pop onto The Shop page for this and all our baskets.

Markets for August

Find us every Wednesday and Saturday at Cambridge markets EQ in the Showring. For all our great French gourmet foods, baskets, table linens and wonderful Made in Mada hats and St James tee shirts. Open from 8am to 2pm.

We will be at the market the 10 and 24th August.  For all our baskets and sustainable bags. Open from 8am to 1pm.

For the moth of August we can be found at the  North Sydney market  17th August. From 8am to midday.

Spring fairs

Sunday 25th August we are joining SCEGGS Darlinghurst for the Fabulous Green Festival on Forbes school event.  Open from 10 to 3pm Forbes Street Darlinghurst.

Friday 13th September – American Tea at Shore School. 9-2pm

Saturday 14th September – Wenona Spring Spring fair at Wenona School.

Merci

June

The winter weather has arrived and you might think that baskets are just for summer. But the baskets make great storage around the house, are useful for harvesting vegetables and are perfect to head to the market for the winter comfort food we will all be needing.

Basket of the Month – harvest basket

Our rush baskets are strong and perfect for strong fresh autumn produce.  Totally hand crafted from rushes – pictured is the medium basket. Pop on to the  shop page to see this and all other baskets.

About the baskets

Frequently asked questions about the baskets:

Are they very strong?  The palm leaf as a fibre is naturally strong and quite elastic which is why it is used to weave baskets and other items. The Moroccans and French have used these baskets for many generations to carry their shopping. In my experience they can carry more than we can.

Can they get wet? Yes they can, in fact from time to time it is good for the basket to become damp or wet. As a natural fibre they can dry out over time and crack. Using them for your beach bag or the washing is a great way to rehumidify the palm leaf for a longer life. Just don’t forget those swimmers though!

What do I do if my basket gets dirty? The baskets wash quite easily. Mix up some warm water with a gentle soap and gently scrub with a soft brush.
Air dry immediately in the sun if possible. Good as new.

Markets for June

Find us every Wednesday and Saturday at Cambridge market EQ in the Showring from 8am to 2pm.  For our full range of baskets, St James tee shirts, our wonderful selection of French pates, duck rilles and confit, French mustards and so much more.

Please note that there is NO Market Saturday 8th June (due to a event on the whole site).  We will be at the market Saturday 22nd and 29th  June with a stack of EOFY sales.  Some great baskets hugely reduced.

We are back on Saturday 15th June. With baskets, sustainable bags and some of our great table linens. From 8am to midday.

On for the diary

Bastille Market –  Club Willoughby Sunday 7th July for EVERYTHING French!! More to come.

Merci
